Reading books can equip us to fight life’s toughest challenges

English philosopher, scientist and author Francis Bacon had remarked ‘Reading maketh a full man’. In today’s age, leisure activities such as book reading, besides giving us enjoyment, offer us many other advantages.
The habit of reading books makes us assimilate ideas, draw inferences and arrive at conclusions, thus igniting our thinking process. Reading turns us into nomads because while immersed in a book we develop a sharp sense of imagination. Without leaving the comfort zones of our homes, we let our imagination take us to different places.
Due to the wisdom which books carry, we become better equipped to overcome life’s challenges and navigate complex social relationships. This is because reading makes us more perceptible and sensitive. It improves our understanding of other people’s emotions, thus expanding our mental horizons. There are abundant examples of people professing not only their love for books but also admitting how a particular read brought about positive changes in their life. No wonder it is said that next to acquiring good friends, the best acquisition is that of good books. Inner Voice comprises contributions from our readers. The views expressed are personal
